“no, no, that’s my bracelet”
“but can I have it as a gift?”
“I don’t have enough for everybody here, so no, you cannot have it”

Lesson #279: do not wear any jewelry to ministry

I could write a book about the lessons I’ve learned so far… and maybe I should.

Ministry is so different than I thought it would be.
It’s not just church. It’s not just preaching. It’s not just door-to-door evangelism.

Sometimes ministry is picking up trash in a third-world country, because people don’t have trash cans so they throw trash everywhere.

Sometimes ministry is beating a wall to a pulp with a hammer, and getting dust in my eyes and rocks in my bellybutton.

Sometimes ministry is cleaning a missionary's kitchen.

Sometimes ministry is keeping a poker face while playing with a super stinky street kid. It’s not their fault they can’t shower or don’t know how to. Ministry is loving them anyway.

Sometimes ministry is waking up at 3:55 am to take a prayer shift, to lift up Honduras to God and beg for peace. This country has the highest murder rate in the world.

Sometimes ministry is helping in the kitchen, making a meal for my squad.

Sometimes ministry is dancing like a crazy person to little kid songs.

Sometimes ministry is feeding a bottle to a special needs baby in a government institution.

Sometimes ministry is simply sharing a little glimpse of my journey with you.

Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for praying for me. THANK YOU for sending me.
Honduras is beautiful and broken. It’s in dire need of ministry.

If you feel called to be a missionary and your heart is inclined toward youth, especially young men, this is a great place to come serve. Send me an email if you are interested and I can connect you with my contact here.

  2. Helena,
Honduras is broken. We need compassion.

    Psalm 34:18
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
    Psalm 51:16-18

    The Lord loves us.

    I love you,
    MOM
